I feel kinda dirty.......

I consider myself a bike rider - pretty much all types, but I definitely lean to the dirt side of the sport - have for the better part of 20 years now. So yesterday, as I left the LBS with a new 14.88 pound Specialized Tarmac SL3 Pro in tow, I thought to myself - "what did I just do". I still have a nice XC and DH bike - and have always owned road bikes - just nothing like this. I feel like I might need to start being a snob to justify owning it. Like wearing my HR monitor while weighing my food, while obsessing over the weight of my socks and bar tape. I'm starting to freak out a bit - is there help for me, or should I just give in and shave my head to save 14.3 grams?

^^ and shave your legs, put on the skin-tight kit, go hang out at Two Wheel Transit and sprinkle every conversation liberally with the word 'century.'

To save your dirty soul, ship that SPEC Tar spot on your soul to me with a $500. repentance check and I will dispose of this blemish on your here to fore good record.

14.88 pounds, sheesh, my hydrobag and tools weigh that much! You got cheated! Doesn't seem to weigh enough for the money they charge.

samburger 01-07-11 12:39 PM

14.88#? Good luck getting your money's worth at the scrap yard with that kind of weight...you got gypped! :P

The pressure you must be feeling, anything less than 20
Mph for a metric century would be total failure. You are a brave man

It's in the mail - hope I got the address right.

If I would have got another DH bike - $ per pound would have been much better

The shop said at this weight I would not have to pedal anymore - Isn't that true?

Zephyr11 01-07-11 04:11 PM

At least it's not a fixie.

I'd kind of like to see pictures, but does that mean I have to venture into the Road forum? Or are you allowed to post them here? :p

dminor 01-07-11 04:18 PM

^^ NO! Links only. Sucksē bikes (Specialized X Road) especially have no business here.

sscyco 01-08-11 09:02 PM

I will post a pic - but with a mtb in it as well. Don't want to piss the mods off

Dannihilator 01-08-11 10:46 PM

Like I would care. ;)

rolliepollie 01-09-11 05:53 PM

If he's not taking his meds, he is bound to lose it for no reason at all.

dminor 01-10-11 12:18 AM

^^ If you weren't such a girl, I'd ban you now. But they'd hear the wailing all the way over on the other forums and not let you in. Then I'd feel guilty.

I'm only a creep because you pathetic losers drove me over the edge.

BTW, I'd like to see this 14.88 lb. rocket ship. Dang!

Pics! Pics!

We don't sell Spesh at TWT anymore, but those SL3s are pretty sick bikes in my book, so I hope you do bring it by sometime. It'll rile up the Madone-heads :D Bet you can't wait to hammer up Mt. Spokane with it this summer!

edit: here, this is a sponsored Trek rider with a climbing tutorial for ya. The music's good:

ALL YOUR BASE !!

twobadfish 01-10-11 12:51 AM

I'm personally a little jealous.

sscyco 01-10-11 11:12 AM

I still have a couple more days in SO Cal before I'm back to Spokane - I will post pics then. Untill then I will hurt more Mandone/Tarmac heads here with the Bike Friday. Nothing like ripping past carbon on 20 inches (Note: it is a BF pocket Crusoe - so kind of a mountain bike - and only used for sanity while traveling)

Gotta love it when he stands and just crushes all the souls behind him.

Yeah, I like it right at 2:00 where he drops the hammer for the SECOND time :D What planet is he from?!

electrik 01-11-11 08:18 PM

You're going to bunny hop something and the wheels will explode.

As far as I'm concerned, you're not a real cyclist until you can do well on both a mountain bike AND on a road bike.

The two disciplines are not mutually exclusive.

Nice bike.

dminor 01-12-11 04:58 PM

^^ I guess I am doomed to being an unreal cyclist.

I don't think you are a real cyclist until you can learn the proper disciplines of road and mountain - and do a tail whip on a Razor scooter and ride one of these:

Don't worry...recumbents count as road bikes.
