30 behind me, 60 in front, down @20

Its more of a ride report. December 13 I tumbled on a downhill and broke c1/2 in my neck. I now have a halo vest lag bolted to my head. Its a 90 sentence. 1/3 of the way to getting it removed. I've also lost about 20 pounds in this experience. ICU for 8 days isn't very nutritional.

The good news is that I have use of arms and legs. Every medical person I see let me know how very lucky/blessed I am.

The upside (like there is much of one) is that these halos are made of Titanium and Carbon Fiber (and plastic and steel and sheepskin) and have a tool kit taped to the front. Its as close to biking as I'm am going to get for a while.

The Scott is in time out for a while. I caught the wife in the garage with an 8 pound sledge hammer. I fear for its safety.

Keep posting pics and vids, they help me pass the time.

I think its disgusting and terrible how people treat Lance Armstrong, especially after winning 7 Tour de France Titles while on drugs!

Oh, and watch that CF halo - - one scratch on a doorway and that bugger could 'splode. Not waht you want happening around your noggin.

I think they take the skewers from DH bikes to bolt it to my skull. Those bolts freak me out.

I have good news and bad news. I've had a double fusion C4-C5-C6 and after the operation and initial healing process, the doc recommended that I ride a bike to get the spinal fluid flowing and accelerate the healing. That's the good news. The bad news is, he wasn't talking about mountain biking.
    Hope you get well soon.

Holy Crap daspy. Glad to hear you're still kickin.' I popped my C4 some years ago and I too know the joys of the halo, although it sounds like mine was nowhere near as tech as yours.

You will have excellent posture when your sentence is over.

I'm also hoping it will teach me to keep my head down on the golf swing. Thanks for the comment about your halo. Its encouraging to know that others have tread this trail.

Hey slimbo, I have a spare bike for the next couple of months. Sorry to hear about the theft. No one has a right to another man's ride.

The good news for me right now is that I quit taking the morphine and just manage with Lortabs for the pain. I put 25 minutes on a recumbent stationary Saturday. Hopefully can do that tonight again. Weird thing is that I have to keep the cadence below 60 to keep the upper body motion still.

Thanks again all for the good wishes.

I didn't think CraigX3 knew how to shift gears.............its too technical for him. The doctor freaked out when he heard that I walked for @ 1.5 miles to get to a road.

this might as well be a war story from Vietnam. I just push all the buttons and hope it does what I want. All I learned from cycling so far is to just keep pedaling.

    Holy crap Daspydyr!

Hope you heal up and get back into the saddle as soon as the doctor will let you.

I had my own Oh S***! moment, in late November. My wife and I just got back on Saturday evening from a week in Cancun and I raced cyclo cross on Sunday morning. Warming up I blasted down a steep bank and felt I was riding too fast to make a turn so I reached down to the drops to grab a brake lever. As soon as I got down low, the front wheel hit a rut and I was launched over the bars onto my head. Took a few moments to realize I wasn't paralyzed. Being the fool I am, after pulling the dirt and grass from the helmet vents, I raced. It was my worst finish of the season but I'll take it versus the consequences.
