well hey guys, im coming from the ss/fg forum, i've pretty much only used a mountain bike as a kid when riding around town. recently, i picked up a circa 1993 giant rincon for $15 at a thrift store(nice find?). Originally, i was planning on flipping it for some cash, but my friend told me to keep it as a communter on rainy/lazy days(tired of getting wet butts on my hipster-mobile) and throw on some fenders, and maybe hybrid it with a road parts(i live in suburban los angeles, so i only do city riding 99% of the time).

my questions are

1. Should i keep it?
2. are 1 inch threaded forks common?
3. my chainring is oval, is that a problem?
4. anything else i should look out for?

edit: tear down for greasing everything up again

The chainring isn't a problem, it's just bio-pace, it's meant to be oval. Back when that was made and on NJS certified track bikes 1" threaded is common.

That one plant needs to be dead headed.

thanks, haha yeah, my garden doesn't have much time to be cared for. well i know that for track bikes, but i was wondering about mtb, is it easy to find replacement parts for 1 inch threaded?

would it be more economical to keep it, or flip it? the paint is like a 6.5/10, i still need tires and a seatpost, can i make a decent profit on this? like will it sell for like at least $100?

With careful shopping for the missing pieces you can turn a decent profit. My hobby is financed by buying & selling bikes. New tires are a huge selling point. Good transpo bikes are always in demand, ask $140-$150 and see what the response is like. DO NOT waste money on paint. Doesn't raise the selling price & makes people wonder if the bike is stolen.
