New guy, new bike - looking for critical eyes

    Hello,

Disappointing enough, after a good run on 2 old MTBs in my 8-15s, I took a break and I am now 20 years old. This summer riding my old MTB throughout the forest I decided to make my come back. I am a student atm so my budget was low. I searched around the past months and yesterday I bought this Gary Fisher Marlin Gs 2008 model for $230.

It is equipped with Deore parts, RockShox Dart2 fork and... That's about it, I guess.

I am wondering if it was a good deal and what could I do for maintenance.

    Here are some pictures:

I am looking for honest opinions even if negative.
    Best regards,
    Andrei

If you are riding with the seat that high - you bought too small a bike.

According to my research, genesis has been another producer of frames. Since Gary Fisher is working with them ( or took them over) the frames are built together under the alliance called genesis sister. Correct me if I am wrong tho.

Anyhow, even if it would be as in girl specific, it wouldn't matter for me. I feel good on it. I was actually wondering about the price deal I got on it and the possible maintenance it requires.

Genesis is the name for the geometry that Fisher uses on their bikes. They have longer top tubes and change where the rider's center of gravity is. The thought is that it improves the handling. Genesisters is the term Fisher uses to describe Genesis geometry for a woman's body (longer legs and shorter torso in comparison to a man of the same height). As long as it fits and feels good, don't worry about whether it's a women's specific bike or not. Not every man and not every woman is proportioned the same, and some men might be more comfortable on women's specific geometry.

It is a woman-specific bike and judging by the height of the saddle, is too small for you.

Welcome to Mountain biking. You are heading the right direction, just get something that fits better and your experience will improve.
I think its disgusting and terrible how people treat Lance Armstrong, especially after winning 7 Tour de France Titles while on drugs!

I can't even find my bike when I'm on drugs. -Willie N.
