Stan's tubeless tire maintenance requirements?
I'm thinking about going tubeless using Stan's sealant or equivalent. I'm aware that sealant should be added time to time and am wondering what happens to the innards of the tire over time? Wouldn't the dried sealant accumlate in the tire or does it all evaporate away? If it does accumulate, how often must it be cleaned (removed)? How messy is this cleaning process? I'd appreciate comments from real world users very much before I decide to go tubeless.

It will dry up over time remove as much of it as possible.

Pop one side of tire off rim, remove one of these, refill stans, pump back up.

i have tubeless, love it. had only one flat, that is about 6 months in, i didn't add new stans, it dried up, completely my fault. the cool thing is, to fix a flat tubeless, you put a tube in it and ride away.
just so you know.....for what it's worth, using Stan's in a Kenda (and to some extent Maxxis) tire will void the warranty of the tire. Using Stan's in a tubeless Kenda tire will not be a problem, but using Stan's in a non-tubeless Kenda tire will cause problems with the tire. (it sort of eats up the tire for some reason). so as long as you aren't totally obsessed with and ONLY USE non-tubeless kenda tires, (i love Conti tires) get the tubeless and enjoy it. or don't. your choice, i don't know if it really actually matters either way. |

I don't usually get the Stan's boogers - the stuff usually dries flat-ish to the tire. I also usually wait until I get a puncture that doesn't seal to kick my lazy arse in to gear and add more Stan's. I gotta stop being lazy about that.

Good Stuff
Been using Stans for just over a year. Had the LBS set it up last year. Added stuff after about 6 mo. Never flat only tiny white spots on the tires from the Stans plugging holes. Just set up a new set of wheels yesterday and could not believe how easy it is to install a Stans kit. Not so sure I would want to try it without my air compressor. Stans has a video on their site about installation that I recommend.

I have Stans in a both tires. The bike is going to be sitting for the next 3-4 months. Already sitting for 2. Should I drain the tires and let them just hang?
