Today, mindbogger, vortec135 and I went out on the don trails. Them (mindbog & vortec) being bigger, stronger and heavier than I am, had less trouble ont he trails. Me? I was slow and I wiped out at least 4 times. It was fun though. Teeters, "U"s in the path. I didn't dirtjump or go on the ramps/boardwalks yet, but I plan to. There was a lot of uphill sections as well as steep downhill. My front kept on washing out the autumn leaves.

Once, I wiped out because my front washed out, I went down a hill about 20 meters, with my rear locked (any braking would cause lockout beacuse of the air the rear was getting). I couldn't reach my front lever(need to adjust reach) and then I saw a log. I hit it, shifted my body weight back and prayed
1)Don't flip over the bars
2) Don't break anything.

I didn't flip over, but I fell sideways. My handlebars hit my stomach. My frame was scratched. Nothing big.

Everything there was fun, a lot of hillside trailing and some sharp turns.

Damn that was fun.

Suure.. Great fun almost breaking a rib.. lol

hooligan 10-23-04 12:41 PM

Yeah, I know but I was hunched back, so I had a lot less impact. I gotta get my brakes reached right. I have to.

Dannihilator 10-23-04 12:51 PM

Sounds like fun. Did you remember to stand on the pedals? Alot of the problems you had would be solved with slight shifts in positioning when going through those sections while standing.

Yeah, but I grew weak. I'm not very strong right now. My knees have been really hurting me, and I've not experienced too much mtbing. As my previous title was "unexperienced geek" :P.

Had a great ride today.

Note to self, do not ride without front brakes. Made it really dangerous.

May I ask why you were riding with no front brakes?

Maelstrom 10-23-04 10:09 PM

I did that once on the mountain. They blew my first run so I ended up riding without for 6 more runs down the mountain. Scarey, yet I gotta faster...faster :)

I lost my front caliper and I was dying to ride.

Yo gotta do what you gotta do.

jallen 10-24-04 12:12 AM

Should have had two front brakes, with separate levers, and an apple pie.

:) Sounds like you guys had a great time, I am jealous! I have been injuried... but I estimate by next weekend I should be back on the bike... Cant wait!!!

despite my self imposed ban from biking (since i'm fasting the month of ramdadan) i was actually thinking of meeting up with you guys for the ride... but i fell a sleep after waking up that morning and ended up sleeping until 11:30... well past your 10am meet time.

oh well... hopefully you guys'll be up for a ride in november. let's hope it's not too cold by then, heh.

glad to hear you guys had fun. :)

hooligan 10-24-04 08:01 AM

November, sure. Yeah, really let's hope it's
1) Not snowy and icy
2) Not a leafy hell. Almost all the times my front washed out was because my front slid with the leaves.
