    Options with my RST Gila 100mm fork

    Hey, so i have a RST Gila 100mm fork. It is no good. I've read the treads on it and what not and know everyone knows its a cheap fork. What should be my options. If i buy a new softer spring and have the LBS install it will that be my cheapest option? How much would a soft spring cost me and where should i look? Also what do you think it will run me to have it installed? Are there varying degrees of softness? How do i figure how hard mine is? If this course of action doesn't go what should i be looking at for a fork that's not too expensive? I can't spend tons on money on a great fork. Thank you.

    Also, I got this bike around 4 months ago and the person i got it from hurt his back and had the bike for 2 years where he only did concrete and he had the fork locked the whole time so it never got used. Is the spring no good now? i live in Phoenix so by the summer it will be 110 degrees will the heat and me using it then loosen it?

    Let me do some digging and see if I have any old service literature on it. It probably has an elastomer stack in addition to the spring and that may have become hard. Give me a day; if I forget to get back to you, shoot me a PM.

    Hey, Thanks Doug, I ended up fixing it. It is probably not the "safest" or "Recommended" way but i ended up taking the right spring out. It works now and everything only have a slight rebound problem i believe when I pull up I'm pulling the shock up a little bit but I'm okay with that. I have the hard springs there's a stick on the fork that says "Hard Spring". I might buy a new one in the future. Thanks again for caring and responding.     Glad it worked out. There was a spring in the right leg? Ha! Wasn't any of the models I was thinking of; usually RSTs that have any sort of damping/lockout circuits are single-sided - - cartridge in the right and a spring in the left. If the one-spring deals ends up being too soft, give me a shout and I'll see if I can help (I'll PM you an e-mail address).
