hello all,
i've got another question for this assemblage of expert opinion.enduro vs vt one? am i correct in thinking they are designed for the same type of riding? and which would you drop your hard earned wages on?

Thats a hard one from what i've heard of both, but I think the new Enduro is what I'd get if I had the money. I'm looking at buying a discounted 04 bike and out the 04 Enduro and VT 1 I would go for the VT1.
Doubt this helped you but thats my opnion, I hoping to test drive a VT 1 soon so I'll let you no more when I do if your still intrested.

Test ride both of them.....totally up to the rider. One may like the Enduro more, one may like the VT more. Get out and try em!

Wait until the new '05 Giants are out... they have a completely new trailbike/freeride line that should be way sweeter than the VT.

Enduro all the way! I have a 2001 model (last year of the non-monocoque frame) and it's awesome for just about any riding I do, which includes a lot....XC fireroads, climbs, really technical stuff, downhill, urban freeride, even my beginning attempts at trials...haha. I like the FSR suspension design a lot, it's definitely one of the best in my opinion. They've improved the bike a lot since 2001. If you can afford it...go for it.

I would say get the VT 1. Maybe only because I have a VT 2, but still, I love my VT. Works great for me on the trails, climbs and downhill.

i'm just back from the melbourne bike show, and i got a chance to have a good look at both, a "sit on" but not a test ride yet.the enduro is winning at the moment for at least purely asthetic reasons...have you seen the remote lockout on the giants nixon fork? its looks like it was taken off a steam engine...

Are you talking 2004 or 2005 Enduro's..... They are making the Enduro's beefier for 2005 and even more importantly MORE expensive....
i currently own an 2004 Enduro and i'm very happy with it. My last trail bike was a 2003 VT-2, i rode it for a little over a year....

First of all i highly recommend the 2004 Enduro i've been very happy with mine. I was moderately satisfied with the VT-2. If you do decide to get a VT buy a 2004, and stay away from the 2003. They beefed up the swingarm peice on the suspension and put in bigger bearings on a load bearing section of the suspension. They go bad in less than a year of hard riding and need to be replaced on the first year versions of the VT.

Pro's and Con's....
The Enduro kicks the VT's ass on climbs period. The only thing that saves the VT from being a pig is the Manitou Swinger, the frame itself without a "progressive" shock is just another frame.... As far as stability on DH and light freeride i'd have to say the VT is very solid. It really is an easy bike for a "trail" bike to rip on chutes, small drops, small jumps etc.. The VT has the edge but really the Enduro fares very well too. But there are many many freeride bikes that outclass the VT, like a Specialized Bighit for example, and will be more dependable to hold up to abuse.
The only thing that bothers me on the my Enduro is the bottom bracket height. It's very easy to skip my pedals off the ground, and clearance isn't that great, but that doesn't bother me too much if you have skill it's not a biggie, just got to stay aware...
Also like people say the VT is being discontinued if you have the bike for more than a few years it will become a hassle to get parts for the frame which i'm sure you will need.
Better get the Enduro, 2004's are a hella good deal i bought an Expert and the component package is very very nice with that bike for the price.
