Chain Device -- MRP WC1 or WC2 for BigHit Expert ???
I have just got my first proper DH bike and am upgrading it to get ready for the racing season next year.
My bike is a Specialized BigHit Expert '04 and want to put a 42 Chainring on (standard 32 is far too small) and a MRP World Cup Chain Device. Does anyone know whether the WC1 or WC2 will work on the big hit and what the difference is between them? I keep reading about an elevated chainstay but don't know what it is? Also, any tips on the chainring would be good. Thanks! |
You don't have an elevated chainstay. Elevated chainstay is when the chainstay...is elevated above the dropout line on your bike. Look at an orange single pivot and the chainstay is halfway towards the riders butt...
Consider an Evil...works like a dream on my bighit, the bashgaurd is by far superior and I believe it is lighter |
Thanks for the info .... Do I need the MRP World Cup 1 or MRP World Cup 2 ?
|
No idea sorry...

I have just read this about the MRP World Cup 2 .....
This chain device works best with standard or lower chainstay bikes such as the Specialized full suspension bikes, and also works well with hardtails. It is compatible with chainrings from 36t to 44t. The inner plate remains stationary which makes it easy to set up and give a perfect chain line. Perfect for Dual Slalom. ... I am guessing I need this - pity about the price! PS: Unrelated, but ff anyone has had problems with the rear suspension hitting the frame, let me know and I'll go into detail. I had issues and it turns out that the bikes were being built and shipped setup incorrectly ... I got the dealers to realize this and Specialized were reluctant to comment but did agree that they were in the wrong. |
where is it hitting? I have never had that problem? Did the mount the shock incorrectly.

The SPV piggyback resivoir was on the wrong side .... It needs to be on the outside when the A setting is used in conjunction with the middle frame hole. See the wrong setting here:-

Now I have another dilemma ... I know I need the MRP World Cup 2 but do I need the Standard or ISGC fitting??
|
I would ask around. With the evil I couldn't use the isgc fittings as the chainstay hits it. But , if it is made for your low chainstay get the isgc fitting for sure

Check out Page 5:-
CAUTION! Do not use the link position A in conjunction with the middle frame hole when using a Manitou SPV shock with piggyback reservoir. This may result in shock damage. http://specialized.custhelp.com/cgi-...ted=1072746515 |
Can't help with the MRP. But Evil makes the best chainguide/bashguards you can get.
