Get out of here with your positive attitude and your 17,000 posts. You probably don't even live in BC...you're probably lurking in KS.

Wow, I haven't posted in 2 years or so, and I have 17000... I must have been bored in my early days haha..

Dminor and a few other old timers (if they are around) have seen me in whistler. A few of them even ended up partying at my house... I most definitely live in heaven

Good to see ya

Strong drink cannot erase the images . . . but adds to the fun in trying .

I'm an old timer, not really BF old timer, but I'm older than Dminor. I'll be in Whistler in July. What's your address? What kinda beer do you have on hand? Can we stay at your place? I'm bringing my son. And the dog. The cat, too.

You were doing fine up to that point. Then you just went over the line.

Glad to see you back! Did I miss the memo telling all the long-lost to return this week?

Joe Gardner sent it out via the bikeforums pony express. I had a really angry bike messenger show up on his FG after a long ride from NY complaining of bad drivers.. ..

Kenhill - good to see ya .. I will be living in Whistler then, but I won't be in town. I have a business trip to victoria for a week, then Dallas, then Atlanta and then to Toronto to round it off. Are you coming for Crankworx?

Blame that one on Siu. And, in typical 01 fashion, he comes up with something that has me scrambling for the dictionary to figure out what he means.

How hydraulics work
Very familiar with hydraulics as it was a concentration in my degree. My three following paragraphs (wow, that sounds sort of sad) is what I was trying to focus on. The difference in the amount of lever pull after the pads have contacted the disc, to be exact.

Understood. Someone else already addressed your lever-pull-issue: it's housing compression.

Really? All that's housing compression? Interesting. Welp, thanks for the response. I'll check it out first-hand when I get back to the States.

When you do, hold the bike still, grab the front brake lever hard, and watch what the front cable housing does.

Where've you been? Mr IGH declared it dead back on page 3.

You're just sore because nobody answered your question as to why your "disk breaks" don't have a modulation setting for "No Latte Spill."

Can disk brakes be mounted on a frame without a disk brake braze-on? How?

When and how does the rider need to replace hydrolic brakes?

I would think that on longer rides or touring in less advanced countries with hydrolic brakes can bad as they are harder to manage. What kinds of things go wrong with them, and how would you fix them a long distance away from a repair shop that knows how to deal with them?

There used to be a company that made bolt on mounts. These were never really recommended as the pressure created by discs is quite large and they were known to break.

I am out of the loop these days so I don't know if they are still available.

Under normal, day to day riding. Never.. my old kit used to include a little extra oil and a bleed kit. With those two things you are pretty set for any road side repairs. Get a set that uses standard motocycle oil and you have a very common repair requirement. In any country.

Once you learn how to deal with them and how simple they are, with a few tools you can manage quite easily on your own. Breakage is rare though, unless you are plowing through trees at 40 clicks. haha

A2Z Components still makes their DM-UNI [https://www.a2zcomponents.com/02produ...apter_05.html]. Seems like somebody here got one but never heard how it worked out. The best adapter is the Brake Therapy kit [https://2btherapy.com/bikes/brake-the...onversion-kit] but you have to REALLY want discs on that frame to pay the price.

As Maelstrom says, little can go wrong. Spare pads is all I've ever taken with me. I have a whole Hayes Stroker master parts kit that I've never had to even open. I have never had a failure in the hydraulic circuit itself.

But realistically, if I did, I figure if you can rebuild a car caliper or master cylinder, there's no reason a little bicycle brake should stymie you.
