Biggest annoyance in mountain biking

We all love the feeling of mountain biking. Some prefer flowy singletrack and others prefer downhill. What are some of your guys' biggest annoyances before during or after riding?

My annoyance is at the beginning of a ride. During the first 8 miles my legs will burn/ache, but after that I guess their "warmed up", and sadly I'm usually done at 15 miles.

Yeah, getting warmed up is a pain. Uncontrolled dogs on a trail, trash in general, people with no regard for wilderness areas. That probably hacks me more than anything.

Insects that follow you, overgrown weeds with thorns, goatheads, being too hot/too cold, snakes, possible mountains lions, people that wear earphones without any regard to other trail users....
Is that enough?

******s, in every sense of the word. The trail is no place for a ******, neither literally nor figuratively.

Really? No feminine hygiene talk allowed on the forum? Well I guess that just proves my point...

-Encountering someone's aggressive dog (again on public property)

People who hate mountain bikers or in general any misanthropic sierra club wanker we all have to deal with while enjoying the woods.

During: riding on singletrack in the woods. Start to smell the tell-tale signs of either cologne or perfume. Further up the trail, catch up to the offending rider(s). It's the F'n woods for dogs sake, not the F'n club!

Trail damage

These things bug me extra bad cause I know I'm one of the ones who has to come back and fix it all. During the summer I usually only get to ride one day a week and when I see this stuff I'm stuck fixing it instead of riding. That means I don't get to ride that week.

LOL. I experienced this for the first time a week ago. I was like "WTF is that smell"? 50 feet ahead she was "hiking" and didn't really want to move over (take one step off trail) to allow me to pass. Arg!

all the people who turn riding a bicycle into a competitive and stuck up fashion event. compared to the majority of the people i talk to, i am not a mountain biker, because i don't talk like one, dress like one, or act like one (whatever that means). acting all bad ass, telling us how awesome they are and how hard they ride, and it doesn't occur to them that we sort of know what we are doing, we live here.

what annoys me more is myself. i suck and i wish i was stronger, faster, better.

I went on a group ride the other day, and there were a few guys (spandexed out) who didnt smile the whole ride. I kept wondering WHY were they out there?? I was in a sleeveless shirt and athletic shorts jokin with everyone at the catchup points, when they eventually rode up, they actually looked upset..

Is it true that most mountain bikers smoke pot? Because if so I was considering joining a club.

People who don't understand the "downhill yields to uphill" rule. I can't tell you how many times I've been working my butt off on a climb and some ass hole comes roaring down the hill with the seeming intention of proceeding right over me if I don't jump out of the way. It's especially crappy when I have to dismount the bike, and then walk up the rest of the hill because it's too steep to re-mount.

and people who don't understand how to put their dogs on a leash. Really? you're that inconsiderate?

This is wrong. You're oblivious if you think you have the right of way over hikers.

Bikes yield to hikers yield to horses. Always. People like YOU annoy me. If you are on a multi-use trail and want to pass a hiker, find our way around them. I do.

LOl ur probably one of those ******s who rocks spandex like hes a gold medal champion. Its not like im plowing through hikers but when im climbing a hill and i give them the polite "on your left" or some heads up and they just turn around and look at you like yeah right that is what annoys me. I dont know how it is on the trails you ride but around here hikers yield to bikers.

no actually, I am one of those ****ers who rides 5 miles to the trail, gets his baggies dirty while changing parts on friends broken bikes, and rides with courtesy to other riders and hikers on his way back to the bar to have a post-ride beer before going home.

Bottom line is they don't have to allow you to pass if they don't want to. It would be extremely discourteous if they didn't, but they don't have to.

Why do you care what other people wear? I wear the spandex stuff because it keeps me cool and dry when I do XC. So what if I'm not racing, I don't like being a soggy mess in regular clothes. The secret is that we're not wearing the stuff to impress you.
