The only advice I can give is to start off very slow. Don't hurt yourself.

Just take a very casual ride and then increase it a little the next day. Get a bicycle computer for about thirty bucks at your local bike shop. They'll install it for free. Take a quick ride (very short) and then go a little father the next day.

Don't hurt yourself. You'll quit if you over-do it. Just have a nice, relaxing ride. Then each day go just a tad further.

Give yourself a few seasons....maybe a year.

The worst thing you can do is try to push yourself when you first start. Things take time.

Most importantly: Have fun.

Become a weekend rider, work up to biking in the morning, then work yourself into the grave for all I care. I went from 300lbs to 200lbs in a year because of cycling.

btw, learn how to diet and your cycling will improve. It will help you with cycling, not weight loss, I swear.......... IMHO

At < 300lbs, I wouldn't worry about the frame holding up as much as the stock wheelset.

chelboed posted a good cheap wheelset. Go to jensonusa.com, pricepoint.com or cambriabik.com

Depending on your riding, wheels and maybe the seat rails / seatpost will likely be the first things to show signs of weakness. Until then, just go with what you've got. I've been pleased with the selection and service at universalcycles dot com.

Jenson, Cambria, and Pricepoint won't sell "hand built" versions of that wheel. You could always order them, de-tension them, and have your local shop re-do it. In my experience with XT/Rhyno Lite and XT/317's from places like that...they are machine built and tend to loosen up often. I'd pay the extra for a good build at 3-hun.

I'll echo '01s recommendations fro saddle rails as well as UnivCyc. They have always been great to deal with and have everything I need. They built my Hope Pro II / EX5.1's and they are still my third favorite purchase to date...right behind my Hone crankset and EA70 HiRise bars.

Agreed. The wheels will be a concern more than anything. Then the seatpost (depending on how fluid your riding will be)..

It should be ok as long as you take it slow. C'mon over to the Clydsdale section of the forum. That's where we big uns hang out.
