New Gemini?

Has anyone out there seen or ridden the new Cannondale Gemini? What are your opinions on it? I wondering if C'Dale shouldn't stick with what they know best or continue to put wild R&D products on the market without enough testing.

I'm not trying to slam Cannondale, they do offer a very nice bike, but it seems the niche is lightweight XC bikes. Why did they NOT use a Lefty on the Gemini (Long Travel Freeride Bike)? If the Lefty is a long travel fork, why do they use it on their short travel Scapel? I'm so confused about that company! Does anyone have any insight?

Seems like a nice bike....but i dont like cannondales. The lefty is a 100mm air fork...its air right**********? 100mm isnt **** for long travel, I think they are saying its long travel for XC!!! Who the **** would want to put a 100mm fork on a bike with.....what does the gemini have...like 6-7" in the rear???

a buddy of mine has a Cannondale sponser and just got a Gemini2000. He really likes it and beats the hell out of it. Got 5th in his first DH race this past weekend. He went right into sport and did really well. (he is a senior sport XC racer and is #1 his cat too)

Is his pretty much stock, or did he swap parts out?

The reason I ask, is I can get one for a good deal, but haven't heard too much about them. I also don't know if I need SO much bike!

It's a LOT of bike. I'm not really sure about the parts but hes not much of a tinkerer so i would assume it's pretty much stock.

Yeah, I was thinking of the 2000, but didn't need or want the triple clamp, I looked at the 1000 but don't like the component spec, especially the psylo. I may still get the 2000 and sell the fork on eBay and get a different single crown Marzocchi.

Don't know yet!

The Gemini sure looks coolio.

Freerider 04-11-02 06:56 PM

It sure looks cool. It certainly cant be a bad bike but i guess it matters how hard you ride it. The shocks dont look to bad eather.
If i were you i would certainly buy that bike.

P.S I dont no about cannondale so i cant tell u much about that.

Nope that's my friend Andy and he's pretty much the ****. He's going to take the Texas xc championship in the Men’s Sport Senior 19-24cat this year and that was his first DH anything and the got 5th out of 20something people.

Anyone else ridden one lately?

I've heard nothing but good things about it from people who don't have preconceived notions about Cannondales.

I'm still kinda on the fence about getting one. The price is right and the specs are good, I'd only change a few things here and there!

Well, my LBS is getting one, but it's the 900 model.

Has anyone ridden one? Regardless of model #?

Hey, you lot! Back off! Leave the Gemini alone. I'm getting one very soon, and anyone who says bad things about it can consider themselves slapped (virtual reality) across the face! Slap! Slap!

Seriously, I did test ride one, admittedly just around a parking lot but I chose the places where the concrete was pitted, and where the drain covers were a bit skew. I'd never have tried that on my road bike. Yes, I know it's not a big time ride like dropping 50m from trees, doing backward flips, and other artistic antics, but to me, as an ex-road bike owner, I was mighty impressed with the response and comfort. So what you say, this dude got to ride over a drain cover, we've got to give him plenty of airspace, he's far too cool for all us combined!

I think it's a great bike. But then again, what do I know?
