This setup is lighter then the Blackspire Blackguard and IMO looks a bit less cobby. Cleaner look. Still loving the BBG outer bash too!

How does that go on a geared bike? I imagine itd be mint on an SS but surely thered be rubbing issues on a geared bike

Inner just bolts up to the 64bcd and there's plenty of clearance.

Y'know...if I were an animal lover, I'd d/l that one to my phone. That was pretty good.

But what's with all the hike'a'bike vid's lately? I guess I didn't know there were so many people out there that walk up the hills. Especially that vid...it's not the fun part, but dude could have pulled the seat up and gutted it out. What's the fun of walking up 40 minutes only to enjoy 5min of riding?

(that's assuming you walk up at 5mph and descend around 40mph)

1 Leave the wheel in the sun to warm the tire up if possible
2 Make sure that the bead opposite from where you're trying to remove the tire is mashed all the way into the drop center of the rim
3 Good tire levers help - I like the blue park ones
4 See rule 2
5 Patience - take your time - go in small increments

If I don't get enough extension on xc rides with this one...nothing is gonna help.

Daamn, where is that? Looks awesome.

samburger 12-21-11 08:15 PM

Had my first pedal slip with the new pedals the other day...pretty painful. Definitely not something I'd like to repeat (& this was just riding around the col de sac:lol:

I was looking at shin guards & the 661 Vegans immediately stuck out to me, mostly because they were cheaper than most everything else. Does anyone have experience with the Vegan shin guards, or have any similarly-priced recommendations? Preferably without knee pads...summers are pretty hot down here so less constricting clothing is ideal.

samburger, dont get shin guards, theyll kill you in the summer down there. Instead you should

1) suck it up
2) get sticky shoes
3) 1 & 2

Z11 and konarider24, are y'all gonna come ride cranx with me, rankin, and that canadian feller?

Dannihilator 12-21-11 08:50 PM

Here there's been discussion amongst the regulars at the pumptrack here that a bunch of us will be making the trip up there once everything's up and going.

I think that's what I needed to hear. In another Doug & Zephyr kept commenting on how worth while shin guards are with sticky platforms, but I wasn't sure if I should suck it up & wear them through summer or suck it up & not wear them at all. And yes, I definitely do need some better biking shoes. Thanks for the advice.

I strongly dislike any kind of knee/shin protection.

A good set of bmx/skate shoes will work well if you aren't willing to pay the $$$ for a pair of Tevas or 5.10's.

samburger 12-22-11 12:13 AM

As much as I drool over a pair of FiveTen Freeriders, I think I'm going to have to go cheap & get some Vans or something with a waffle outsole. My current shoes are skateboard-specific & have really shallow tread for better traction on grip tape, which means nothing for the pins to sink into.

In good conditions my pedals are still worlds better than the old ones even with poor shoes, but when they get wet or muddy they're unpredictable.

Dannihilator 12-22-11 12:19 AM

I never was a fan of the vans waffle outsole. I kind of like what DC or Etnies provides in terms of traction.
