    1x9, 11-32t. Short cage X9?

    Short or medium?

Also: confusion... Does SRAM make a short cage X.9 9spd RD? Or only short caged 10spd... and doesn't the shifter determine the actuation, i.e. how many speeds it has?

The following short answers are good answers, but not the only ones for the question asked 29, Brooks, lugged, disc brake, steel, Campagnolo, helmet, custom, Rohloff, NJS, carbon, 31.8, clipless, porteur.

Yes they make one. I'm running one on my 303R. As long as your front ring is 38T or less, you will be fine.

And yes, the shifter determines the number of speeds. Since the cassette carrier is the same width for both, the der. has to have the same amount of total throw.

Thanks D. X.9 short cage "10spd" it is.

It claims "exact actuation" "10 speed only". That sketches me out. Still go for it...?

I personally would stay away from trying to use the new 10-speed SRAM stuff 9-speed. From everything I've read it won't operate quite right for you; because, although SRAM calls everything 1:1 actuation ratio, those ratios are rounded off for simplicity. 9-speed X hardware is actually in the neighborhood of 1:1.2, where the new 10-speed "Exact Actuation" is really 1:1.1. Your 9-speed shifters are not going to line up the 10-sp der. parallelogram quite right over your cogs, if what I read is true.

Short cage RDs work fine with a single chainring.

SRAM 9 and 10 speed derailleurs are not interchangable. The shifter AND rear derailleur must match.

Found a 2010 X.9 9spd short cage on Jenson. Winner!
