Flat Geography Boredom?

I know I'm not the only one here who lives in a flat geographical area, & I hope I'm not the only one also stuck in the 'burbs. What do the rest of you do to keep yourselves entertained on those days when you don't have the time/transportation to hit the trails, but you can't bear not to be on your bike? How do you get creative to make your boring neighborhood a bearable place to bike? I'm starting to go stir crazy & I've grown immune to the brief satisfaction of just riding up & down the street:twitchy:

build some sweet jumps somewhere? Backyard pump track maybe? Ive seen some pump tracks built it surprisingly small areas.

Stairs, ledges, wheelies, curbs if you're really desperate.

Drainage swales; the little curb humps on either edge of driveways can be boosted; bunny-hopping curbside recycling bins; riding off neighbors' retaining walls . . . .

Build it | Jump it . . .

But be careful . . .

That smarts! For what it's worth, I crash about five times as often when I'm tooling around in my yard as when I'm out on the trail.

I want to buy that 8 year old. (maybe he could teach mine to shred)

cyclops 09-30-11 07:05 PM

Yeah, I just showed my 12 yo and 8yo that vid, thier afraid I'm going to make them do it.

samburger 09-30-11 07:20 PM

Haha those videos are awesome. Ed, if you buy that kid, send him my way to give me some pointers :p

I guess I'm just gonna have to build some ramps and practice my one-wheeled skills. It'll be good practice for gnar shredding AND craftsmanship. Or maybe I'll see how much of the woods in our back yard we actually own...a small pump track sounds pretty sweet :thumb:

On moon lit nights I trespass onto the local front and back nine of the local country club:o Otherwise I am a fat poser urban ninja who uses the features of other peoples back yards when they are not looking:innocent:

I live in right outside the border of a country club neighborhood & it's actually the same neighborhood I grew up in, so I know my way around probably better than any cop ever could. I'll have to give that one a try!
