Air AND oil suspension?
I was looking at a Gary Fisher Tassajara last night and the guy at the lbs pointed out that one side of the front suspension was air and the other was oil?
Sounded cool at the time, but now that I think about it, why the dual set-up?
What's the advantages/disadvantages of each?
sorry if this question is elementary, I never had a bike with suspension before.

I think you are confused, maybe he said coil. My MX Pro is 1/2 air 1/2 coil, and has oil for dampening. The oil dampening is to prevent the suspension from slaming shut or expanding fast, it helps prevent damage to the fork, and is quite useful when the going gets tuf.

Oh, you are probably right. He had an accent, haha.
So why the split set-up though? Why not coil/oil in both sides?

I believe they separate into seperate legs primarily because of space. I don't think you could get quite the performance by combining them both into a single leg. Not to mention it would most likely be a lot heavier due to the extra hardware (two oil "reserviors/shocks" instead of one, etc.)
