Handlebar Height

Hey guys,

Just picked up an 05 Trek Fuel ex7 and I have a question. The previous owner has the steerer tube cut pretty short with only a few spacers. My previous bike has a pretty long steerer tube with alot of spacers which is a feel that I like alot. I love this new bike but I feel like it has me hunched over more than I usually am. Is there any way to get the handlebars up a bit without having to buy a new fork with an uncut tube? Can you get new tubes pressed in? Thanks

Ty

Get a riser bar, unless you already have one.

Professionals can style these.

You can also get a high rise stem:

I had a really short tube on my PIKE b/c it came off a Pitch.

I used a Crank Bros low stack headset, Spank Spike stem (low stack), and my signature Easton EA70 HiRise bars. The low stack stem and headset allowed me to have less wasted stack below the head tube and above the stem which allows me to put more spacer under the stem.

Thanks for asking the question and then the posts in reply. These might be just what I need for wrist and hand fatigue.

Had I not gone with this stem/headset combo...I would never have been able to use this fork. This even gave me enough extra tube to add a spacer under the stem:

Damn, that probably would have made my old fork fit on the new Giant and not caused me to have to buy a new fork and sell the old one. How tall is the stack on that stem? I only had about .5" sticking out the top and obviously couldn't get my 1.5" tall stem to work. Wish I had seen these first. How durable are these Ed?

It's a DH stem. It's freakin' gnar.

The stem stack height is only 26mm.
https://spank-ind.com/index.php?a=inf...ro&id=33&tid=1

The headset helped out alot too at only 20.56mm total:
https://www.crankbrothers.com/directsets_opiumsl.php

The beauty of the Spank Spike is in the pinch bolt. Instead of using 1 or 2x 4mm hex screws that thread through one piece of stem into the other (like a thomson)...the whole thing is "through bolted" with an 8mm "high torque lock down" sex bolt. It's tough enough.

Dang, sounds awesome, but at that cost not worth it for my application. If my bike and old fork were worth more than it would had been worth it, but just that headset cost almost as much as my new fork . I'm perfectly fine with how my bike turned out and just gonna enjoy it till I get money for a new one in a couple of years (after graduating). thank for the links though, will keep them for future reference.

You gotta be resourceful when buying this stuff. Don't just go to your favorite LBS or online dealer. Shop around...but I hear ya. This stuff can get a little over the top.

How sketchy is this?

https://www.blueskycycling.com/produc...Angle-Stem.htm

The stem I have now is short and flat. Looking to get one that is a little longer and at an angle like previously posted...but I am a broke college student so less $ the better haha

Can you express this with numbers? There may be an angle and a length printed somewhere on the stem. Or perhaps a good photo from the side about 10' back from the bike pointing at the upper headset area?

I've never tried it but I hate the idea of even doing a 4" bunnyhop on an adjustable stem. Gives me the willies.

A HiRise bar changed my Parker from an incredibly odd feeling bike to a bike that feels like I've been riding for years. I feel very at home on Easton HiRise bars...the Syncros feels similar.

Heck...you can get 3" rise bars if you want.

That's pretty nifty. I think I prefer the Habanero one though. I like how it's all laid out there for you.
