XMas Day ride GoPro Movie

www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFGiVyHUBXU

My first attempt at a movie using footage from my new GoPro camera.

Nothing special really. Just a good day on the bike and a good day learning how to edit video.

I also got a GoPro (Hero) for Christmas with the chest mount. Took it to our local mountains for a ride but the camera wasn't angled up enough especially on descents since I'm on the drops more (road bike, not mountain). I was pretty impressed with the quality. Need to get another battery though since I only got about 2:15 mins of ride.

Hey, what did you mean by "use more camera angles" on your Youtube post? Curious.

samburger pointed out a great tip to get the angle up on the chestie mount to me. If you flip the bracket in the chestie and mount the camera upside down and just flip the image in the settings it lets you rotate it up instead of down. This solved all my problems. Thanks again to samburger for the great tip!

Unless it is fairly short - and there is something interesting going on - a video that is just one-angle POV is boring. The camera needs to move around and provide multiple views to make it interesting.

I got a tiny bit of that on the one hop - you get POV leading up to it, then an exterior shot of the hop from one angle, then another exterior shot of the hop from another angle, then back to POV.

Spliced together properly (and I'll be the first to admit that I'm just learning what "properly" is) it makes the video flow better and tell a proper story.

I shot a ton of footage like this a couple of days ago - a couple of exterior angles on every corner, plus chest mount, helmet mount, and seat post mount forward and rear - of a section of trail. But unfortunately I had selected "camera" mode instead of "video" mode and all I got was a bunch of stills 1 sec apart.

Because I'm working hard.

And you are quite correct that the low-angle camera angle is too low.

I have a few go pro videos and I usually edit out the wind noise unless the ambient audio adds something. Even with the sealed back cover its still pretty annoying, in my opinion.

do you have the new go pro version 2 or the older one ?
