2007 Trek Fuel Question
Does anyone know how big of a tire will fit on a 26" 2007-ish Trek Fuel(not sure of exact year yet)? I'm looking at just a frame with rear shock for really cheap, to put a bunch of extra parts on to replace my stolen MTB. I'd like to run as wide of tire as possible. Should it fit something in the 2.5"+ range, or will it be limited to more like 2.25"?

I have a 2007 EX7 and my wife has a 2008 EX9.
You are limited to 2.25". The clearance is quite poor. I would love to put on a fatter tire, but it is not possible (and if I can slide a credit card between a tire and the frame, I put the tire on the bike).

Well that's disappointing, but less disappointing than getting a 2.3" tire and having it be Barely too big. I'll probably still get the frame and just be sad about the tire size...

I found putting a short stem on mine was an excellent way to do wheelies when least expecting to at Slick Rock in Moab.

I just took another look at the bike. The main problem is clearance of the bridge on the rear triangle, not the stays. The rim I have (that came with the bike) is absurdly narrow. I am wondering if a wider, flatter rim might allow you to get a bigger tire in there. There is plenty of room for something bigger in the front (which of course is fork-dependent).
