I've really enjoyed my Time ATAC Z's (ATAC Alium with a platform around them); they clip in and out smooth as butter. But I haven't really found a need to be unclipped near as much as I thought I might and I am thinking of moving to a straight ATAC mtb pedal. Anyone made that move (clipless platform to 'little' clipless) and liked it?

I have Crank Bro's, not ATAC Z's. I went the other way from clipless to platform clipless (Mallet's) and am happy I did. The main reason was that when starting up hill, if I didn't get the second foot clipped in right away it didn't seem like I had much leverage with that foot on the pedal with the minimum sized platform to get going. That is definitely not a problem with the platform clipless. I also seem to clip in and out easier with the platform clipless. I would definitely not go back again.

That's what I did. My HT(F700) came with Onza pedals. Well, my first mtb(Schwinn) came with toeclips. Went from the Onza(after wearing out all the elastomer inserts) to powergrips(straps diagonally across the pedal) on platforms to M636's. Got my FS and put the 636's on it and got M545's for my HT. It's nice to have that additional area if I have trouble getting clipped in--esp. up/down hill.
