It makes the same sound whether you're shooting air or actual paintballs... So I guess they didn't wanna take any chances of getting pelted and welted.

That sounds like a good addition to a commuter bike.. handlebar mounted, fully automatic paint ball gun

Works especially well if the people in the car have their windows town to yell

When I was in high school I ran a landscape operation near my house. Since it was so cloe I never needed to drive. Well, the neighbor kids would get a annouying about me carrying so much stuff around (esp the skateboarders) and one went to spit a real big whatever ya wanna call it at me. I had my 16 inch, wide blade machete in my hand, so I just held it up as I rolled by.

Ive never seen a teenage kid suck spit back in so fast

Yea man, I just read the post now even though it is a couple days old. I found it interesting the stories people have to tell. I am a highschool rider myself (I'm a senior). Now I race, time trial, and have ridden a cheap hardtail down Mt. Snow. Half the punks who like to say "oh so your one of those **** that wears the tight shorts" Luckily my school has a cycling club. :-D And the deans close the parking lot and make every kid except for riders move their cars out of it so we can race :-p

at any rate, keep riding, thats all that matters

Notice most that say that are at least slightly out of shape?

Why is it that with younger kids, most of the insults involve questioning another male's sexuality?

From what I've seen it is not isolated to high school. The guys in my tech school were terrible for that. The were always getting on me too about being childish for not driving. That is until they found out I was winning 15mile trail races and commuting 12mi without a sweat. Then they kinda shut up.

From what I can tell they have weaknesses they don't want anybody to see. Thus they project this onto the next available target. That was a lot of times my bf as well, since he did the same kinda riding.

The long answer to that question probably belongs in the Politics and Religion forum. Pennsylvania is correct, it is usually a projection of insecurity and not restricted to young kids.

I guess it has to do with maturity level more than age... good point.. regardless, I've noticed that most often, the "insults" that people throw at us cyclists seem to question our sexuality. Needless to say, it seems that most of us have become pretty thick-skinned and don't let idiots bother us.

I think everyone here is missing something huge - the people who do this are the road warriors who speed and take dumb chances and run redlights and end up dead...it should take a load off your mind knowing that the poor sucker yelling at you isnt watching the road....just imagine his car crumpled up against a tree and him about 30 feet down the road since hes too cool for a seat belt.

Yeah. Wish they would get a bike and try it themselves. Then see if they gripe on us.

Actually if you pull a paintball gun on them YOU willl get into trouble, not them. Cops don't play when it comes to "weapons"

But see dirtbike, you might end up pulling your PB gun, and they pull a real gun. I cannot emphasize how important it is, if you're going to act like you're going to do it...do it. So many ppl who have a LTC or CCW end up being a victim b/c they hesitate....you were lucky.

hahaha...man do what you want...I'm just saying. I've read way too many reports of people "hesitating" and somehow being killed/shot by their OWN gun...

At least the people that "harassed" you didn't touch you [if ive read everything correctly]. I had a group of teens in a car try to grab the back of my jersey....that was quite scary!
