5.5" + 26er Trail Bikes
I can't decide...and I have ridden:
2011 Turner Five Spot DW
2010 Ibis Mojo HD
2012 Specialized Stumpjumper EVO
2011 Ellsworth Epiphany
2012 Pivot Mach 5.7
2011 Trek Remedy 9.9SL
2011 Titus FTM Carbon
2010 Rocky Mountain Altitude 70 RSL
2012 Yeti SB66
2010 Intense Tracer VPP
2011 Giant Trance X Advanced SL1
I'm coming from a 4.0 inch travel, 2010 Giant Anthem X2, that weighs about 23 pounds. I now want an all-day, go anywhere bike that climbs(they all do, very well) and descends even faster. If you have ridden any of the bikes listed above...I'd like your thoughts and impressions. I ride mostly desert trails and occasionally loamy forests. TIA....

i have owned and ridden a turner 5 spot, and a trek remedy. i have also ridden an ibis and the rocky mountain, and i am currently riding a rocky mountain slayer as my main bike.
i loved my turner. if you get the turner, put a 170mm fork on it, and it is a sweeeeeeet ass bike.
however....also....i would go with the rocky mountain, they have a kick ass geometry that seems (to me) to climb better than the other bikes i have ridden (including the turner). the altitude is a pretty kick ass bike. also, rocky seems to have a geometry that fits shorter folks like myself. the remedy is kick ass, but trek tends to have a longer top tube (in feel) which (for me) wasn't as comfy. ibis also tends to have a shorter top tube and fit shorter folks better. the remedy and the ibis are 6 inch bikes, which (in my opinion) kick ass (slayer is 6+!!!!)
go with the rocky or the ibis. if it fits you and you are comfy, the remedy is a great bike, light, durable, and the 9 has a through rear axle, which gives better stability.
that's my opinion. other than the titus, any bike you choose from that group will be a kick ass bike. go with what is most comfy for you.

I like my SB-66 a lot and the low, slack geo makes it an excellent descender imo. With a coil shock it would be well suited for bike parks and all but the narliest DH.
I haven't ridden any of the others however.

Youzer Dilberto, not a box bike in the mix. Maybe you should check your local Sam's Club just in case! I'm saying Ellsworth just to be a contrarian!

5.7 or the mojo HD gets my vote. I would say the mojo is the most versatile bike on the list given that you can run anything from a 150 to a 180 up front and the rear shock has the 2 mounting positions. But im also a huge Pivot fan. My FB has been amazing and their customer support is awesome. And i think the 5.7 has a carbon option now.

How does one choose just one bike from that list? I say that you should go for all of them, even if there is some overlap.
I'm partial to the Pivot since I have a Mach5. Great if you want something that can pedal like a XC bike, but still eat up terrain on the downhill. +1 on 5.7c.

I considered all of those bikes as well, and rode or saw most of them. It was a difficult decision...until I rode a Devinci Dixon, end of story!!

In addition to the Dixon, the Commencal Meta AM may be a good bike to add to the list. I built up a Meta 5.5 yesterday for someone and got to spend some trail time on it today. I was pleasantly surprised with how well it rode. The bike pedals very well for 140mm - almost as good as my Mach5, but the Meta is way more plush on the downs. It's definitely a bike that I would look into if I were in the market.
