help with rims
Some assistance needed, recently bought trek 3700 mountain bike. Love the bike but im wanting heavy duty rims that are lighter than stock. I havent rode since a kid but been riding hard everday i put 21 miles on today i will get down to 240 but am currently 270 so feel as if i need more rim for the trails. Any suggestions on an upgrade?

a) "heavy duty rims" Heavy duty rims are usually heavier, but not 100% for sure.
b) "lighter than stock" How heavy is stock?
c) "i will get down to 240 but am currently 270" You can minimize need for a) and get by with existing rims if you work on c). I've got a secret that works.
"Any suggestions on an upgrade?" Put max effort into c) it's the healtiest choice
Else need more info such as what rims you have, how heavy are they, why do you think you need heavier duty, when will you be down to 190,

Something to consider. If your TREK 3700 is a V-brake bike, you might still be able to find some high end wheels that guys abandoned when they upgraded rides to disc brakes and the hubs wouldn't work any more. You may have to run a wanted ad CL. I found Mavic 517's which used to be one of thee rims to own. Also, Mavic 221's used to be readily available. Not high end, but certainly an upgrade from the entry level rims on the 3700. You should be able to find a set of really nice wused heels for under $50. If the seller argues that the wheels they have cost $300 or some other number, tell them that was before discs.
