2012 Giant Talon 29er 2 question
I am really considering the Talon 2 29er as my first mountain bike. My main question is are the forks on this bike really that bad and are they okay for casual trail riding and road riding and maybe going fast through trails sometimes as well? And how does this bike compare to the revel 0($690) highest model, verses the talon 2 ($650) lowest model?

It's an entry-level fork from Suntour. I've never ridden that particular model, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be just fine on trails. The issue with such forks is not really that they'll fall apart under use. It's more a matter of them using very simple damping mechanisms, and you tend to miss out on various adjustments such as for rebound. Again, I've not ridden that fork, so I can't really offer up any experience.

Yea, I guess for someone like me that has not ridden a bike since I was younger will really notice that the forks are really lacking unless I ride a better model with a higher end fork.

Went to go test ride it the other day and it feels very good, the only thing that I am worried about is that it does not have a lockout so when i picked up my speed the front end would bounce. That's the one and only thing on this bike right now that has me worried.

I have a 2012 Talon 1 with a Suntour fork with a lockout. I assume its a similar fork though, and I have had no problems with it what-so-ever. I've taken it on nice trails, some decent downhills, and path riding with no issues. I only went with the talon 1 for the lockout fork and the hydro brakes. I absolutely love this bike

Yea little late reply but went with the talon 2 and so far this bike has been amazing. Taken it out on some dirt trails and a road trail and it has worked perfectly so far. Happy with my decision and ill probably just upgrade parts as they go out on me.
