stupid tire color question
k, stupid question, just kind of curious, but I just installed a new pair of michelin tires and when you squeeze them to put them on the rim they turn white, but you can actually rub the white off. What is that from?

The white stuff is to protect rubber, keep it “rubbery” I think. It's from the factory and will come off eventually....... Ride more

It's the releasing agent applied to the inside of the mold. They pour in the liquid rubber and then pop them out of the molds. Think cup cake pan.

It's just there to help release the tire from the mold. In some cases it is actually talcum powder.

I've never actually had any tires do that yet.. I guess none of them have been "fresh" enough... Learn something new everyday though
