The most awesomely horrible bicycle movie ever!

Found this gem on youtube today.

Never heard about or seen it before. Its not exactly mountain biking but its one of those movies that's so bad its worth checking out. Enjoy RAD! LOL

I dare you to try and make it through the whole movie.

I sat through the whole thing *twice* when it was in theaters circa mid '80's.

No doubt, man. I used to own RAD on VHS. It's one of the quintessential cult following bike movies. Just like Gleaming the Cube for skateboarding. These are must-watch movies.

There are several important movies on netflix. Most of them documentaries...but excellent stuff. The Birth of Big Air...the Matt Hoffman story. All sorts of important X-Games kindling that later started the raging fire that it is today.

I was surprised that I'd never heard of "Thrashin" before, given that I was so into that culture at that time. What other movies out there are similar...meaning the personification of extreme sports in its infancy or documentaries on them?

Rad
Gleaming the Cube
Thrashin
Stoked: The Rise and Fall of Gator
Rising Son: The Legend of Skateboarder Christian Hosoi
(incidentally...Hosoi is a pastor in Cali now)
Klunkerz is a documentary of the birth of Mountain Biking
(similar attempt, but way different feel IMO)
Lords of Dogtown

The Search for Animal Chin is kind of a stretch b/c it was a spoof "fun movie" that was made by the Bones Brigade. Basically a skate vid that tried to have a plot. All of the skate vid's back then were fun, but not applicable IMO. If that were the case, we'd have to include every skate/bmx/MTB video ever made.

Man, animal chin had the worst soundtrack of all time. Cheezy blues based riffs with casio.

Well, actually there was a late 80s snowboard vid called Snow Rules that had some pretty nasty tunes.

I'm 30 minutes into it and it's not as bad as I expected. I actually like it. It's definitely 80's cheesy, but then it was made in the 80's so that's ok.
I was about a year old when it came out so I'm too young to be nostalgic about it, but it does make me want to fix up 15 year old bmx bike. Though I'm sure I could just buy a new one for as much as that would cost. (but that wouldn't be any fun would it?)

Lords of Dogtown
Dogtown and Z-Boys was the earlier, less produced version of Lords of Dogtown. IIRC, it was actually directed by Stacy Peralta.

Riding Giants and Endless Summer for surfing. There's a new one set to come out about Jay Moriarty and Mavericks too, but no idea how accurate vs Hollywood-ized that'll be.

Dunno exactly maybe I'll look it up later.

I'm in the mood for asphalt action tonight, think I'll watch Faster when I get back to the pad.

yeah, that movie sucked!

it sucked so much that trek built "rad" ross schnell a RAD themed bike for his singlespeed world championship race.

https://www.bikeradar.com/gallery/art...champs-28141/4
also we played the movie in the shop for like a week....

RAD is a great movie.

Cannot see due to big ad. Cannot click on the area of the video needed to see it on youtube due to big ad.

However, I have seen it before back in my BMX dirt jumping days. Fun movie to see the old days of the sport. I love those old bike documentaries.
