    2004 Cindercone

Found a 2004 Cindercone (new) at a LBS. They're asking $599. I'm sure they could even be haggled down a bit more? Does this sound like a fair price?

Also, I noticed the tires were a bit skinny on the Cindercone. Can you put bigger tires on without upgrading the rims? Any other immediate upgrades you guys would recommend on a 2004 Cindercone?

    Thanks!!

seeing that the sticker is $800, I'd say that $600 is pretty good. They knocked off 1/4 of the total price. Anything less would be icing on the cake.
Those tires are 1.95 wide. They seem decent. I would ride them and see how they do and then decide it you want to upgrade. But first try them out because they might work very well. I have a set of IRC Mythos on an old beater bike and they are 1.95 and I have never had a problem. Although they are a little small. A recommendation is the Panaracer Fire XC Pro's. They are relatively cheap and some of the best performing tires on the market. I believe they 2.1's and should easily fit your rims. but dont get new tires just for the heck of it. that would be a waste of money. enjoy and let me know how that bike works for ya

That's a pretty good deal. MSRP is close to $800.

I'm not a big fan of the Shimano Mechanical discs. Ask if he'd consider swapping them out for some Avid's. I'd pay extra up to $75 extra for that swap out.

The Fork is a so-so fork in that price range. I'd leave it for now unless you really want to spend some money. You could put another $150 towards upgrading the fork and you'd have a KILLER bike with a sweet fork and some great brakes.

    All for $825!!!!!!!

Oh yeah, regarding your tires. For most of your riding (if mostly XC) those will be fine.

I remember just a few years ago (o.k., maybe closer to 4 or 5) most bikes were spec'd with 2.1" tires and everyone was swapping them out at time of purchase for 1.9's.

Unless you're going to start jumping a lot, the 1.9's should serve you well.

    Thanks for the input!

I haven't purchased a bike in years and there's so much to consider.

I was looking to spend between $600 to $800 so this bike would be ideal. The shop still has quite a few 2004's in stock so I may wait a bit longer to see in the price drops some more.

    ez!
