Gary Fisher bike Opinions

Im looking to get a used mountain bike and this one popped up on the radar. Its a Gary Fisher zr9000 with BS 6102 marked on it as well. The owner said the air shock has a small leak that requires a refill once a week. I am suppose to go look at the bike tomorrow. I just would like some opinions on it and also opinions on shock repair.

Its a Gary Fisher zr9000
No it isn't, it's a 2003 Sugar 2+ Disc or a 2003 Sugar 2+ that's had disc brakes put on it.

Opinions will depend on how much the seller wants for it ?

You could send the shock to Fox for repairs or you could find a bike shop to do it, you might only need to replace the seals on it.

That is not the original shock. Your pics are small, but it looks like an older Manitou Radium to me, which is a lot cheaper and IMHO crappier than the Float R the bike came with.

An air leak in the shock could be a very easy fix, or it could be cost prohibitive for a low-end shock like that. A professional basic rebuild probably would start in the $70 range. PUSH would probably charge $125-150 to rebuild and put in better seals, tune for your body weight and trail types, etc.

I would ask where the original Fox shock is at. For sure, you should air up the tires, shock and fork and take a short test ride up and down some curbs. Make sure the shock and fork are damping and they don't have an excessively 'springy' feel.

The guy who is selling the bike, got the bike from a tenant who skipped town without paying rent. The tenant left the bike and a bunch of other household goods at the home. So If thats not the original shock, then the new owner wont know where the original one is at.

So if the shock is original and seems like a easy fix, the fork is in good condition; how much do you think its worth?

It's worth less than $300 in parts, but it's probably worth at least $150 just due to being a rideable, brand name MTB.

I believe it's a Cane Creek with part of the diagonal decal missing - - probably an AD5. AD5s are owner-serviceable with a seal kit and this set of rebuild instructions:

$320 for the same frame with a fox shock and a few parts.

Search on ebay for 'Gary Fisher Sugar' and look at the completed listings to get an idea of what the bike would be worth.

So before I could talk the guy down to a lower price, someone bought the bike. I just checked the local classifieds and the new owner of the bike just listed the same bike for 375!!!!
