'94 GT Zaskar Advice

Hi everyone, just picked up a '94 GT Zaskar to add to the stable.

My plan is to ride it through the New England winter (as a glorified beater), while gradually accumulating parts to modernize it, and have it become my hardtail trailbike for next spring. I'm looking for suggestions as to what to update (opinions welcome), and what should stay original. Currently thinking to replace the headset to get something with sealed bearings and in the process, change out the old Marz xc500 for a 2003/2004 fox F80. Maybe upgrade the drivetrain to a 2x9 w/ bash SRAM x7. Here's some pics, and let me know your thoughts...

Nice looking frame. I've got an old zaskar le, from college, that had the frame replaced once and now has a bastardized parts list. Rode it yesterday, it reminded me of why I bought it to begin with and also why I like the full suspension bike now.

Upgrade what makes you happy. I'm still running a mag 21 and 7 speed thumb shifters on my zaskar.

Mike.

80mm with conservative rake will probably take all the joy out of the point and shoot Zaskar geometry. I would stick with a Zoke Z2 with 63-70 travel and the more aggressive Marzocchi rake, you will like the steering much better IMO.
