Which bike should I get?
Hello, I have been using canadian tire bikes for a while and I am ready to buy my first real bike. I like to ride medium trails and I ride a lot of street roads. My price limit is about 600$ including tax. I also live in Canada, which means all the prices are super expensive so keep that in mind. I want hydraulic disk brakes if possible, and oil/air shocks/suspension, I do not want crappy spring shocks. I've been looking at the Giant Revel 2 and some Marin bikes. Should I get the giant revel 2 or should I buy something else?

Two things,
I wouldn't get hung up on hydraulic VS mechanical as a decision point at your price range. IMHO, Avid mechanicals are excellent brakes that modulate well.
I agree with your assessment of spring shocks, but at your price point, I don't think you have many options. Bikes that come with a good air shock with dampening are priced way up there.
Giant, as you know, is one of the big three bike manufacturers. They make a good bike. If you like the Revel, and it's in your price range, I'd say buy it. It's certainly on par with anything in that price range and it will be able to handle the type of riding you're doing. You might want to check out Trek and Specialized before you buy.

Nothing wrong with coil suspension. Actually has more linear travel, and a lot of people prefer it. Heavier though. I've got one air fork and one coil fork...an F100 and a Domain. I tend to prefer the air fork myself, but 1) it's on a better bike, so it's nearly impossible to compare just the forks without getting bias from the bike too, and 2) despite having a soft spring in the Domain, it's still kind of stiff for my weight. But don't think that coil forks are crap...they're most definitely not.
Revel is a solid bike. That's not an air fork on there though...nor is it a high quality coil fork. You'd have to spend a looot more money to get a good fork. Still a great first bike though.

perhaps look for an older high range model like a 1999 stumpjumper pro with a rock shox sid.

there are so many descent bikes out there, But for 600 I would look for a nice used bike. you gotta watch your local craigslist. Good deals usually go fast, but they come up often.
