New to mountain biking!!! Please Help!!!
I am 13 and I am already into mountain biking on a small scale. My parents dont want to buy me a $1200 bike for something that I am not going to stick with. I believe I am going to stick with it. My friends have Cannondales and Specialized, stuf like that. I was into BMX before mtbing so i know the basics; bunny hopping, ramping, drop offs, etc. I just dont know what kind of bike to get. I have a Mongoose that me and a friend have been messing with. It is a 24" with front disc brakes and rear v-brakes. It has a Rock Shox Judy XC fork and aftermarket handlebars. I just screw around on this bike. Should I just keep fixxing this bike up or get a new one? I have been looking at Specialized Hardrock Comp Disc's at a bike shop in town and I think that is the route I want to go. I just dont know whether I should go Specialized or Trek. Any suggestions? I want front and rear discs but i can live without if i have to. Thanks ahead of time!

I think you should upgrade...mongooses aren't what they used to be...the hardrock comp disc is a good place to start. My friend has the hardrock pro disc and likes his.

Yeah, go for a new bike. The mongoose you have is more than likely not worth upgrading.

If you can spring for the Pro, I say go that route. I have one and love it. I ride it everywhere and haven't had any problems yet. I tool around town on it, ride it down stairs, jump curbs, etc. I even commute about 20 miles a day on it to boot. The comp disc isn't a bad choice by any stretch, but the Pro is a worthy upgrade.

I have a HR SS and I don't have a problem with the Tektros.I don't ride it down mountians so that may be why.My trail bike has avids. My son has tha HR with tektros and he likes them over his old v-brakes,then again he's only 91lbs so thats not alot to stop.
