Pretty much, the worst Diamondback is equal to or better than the best Nishiki, IMO; go for it and hit the pedals GRINNING.

Both bikes are entry level BSO (Bike Shaped Objects) sold at Dick's Sporting Goods.

The problem that you have experienced is not one of quality, but assembly. The problem has NOTHING to do with the brand.

If you decide to stay with a BSO instead of a higher quality used bike you would be wise if you took it to a real bike shop and have them check the build. The LBS guys love to do that!!!!!!

as in, only the most skilled mechanics can make a wall mart bike work like an actual bike?

    MC, take the new bike.

Yup - if a mechanic can make a crud bike shift and brake well, he can do anything! Now, the POC won't STAY tuned, but still...
