29er wheel recommendation please

Hi all,

I recently purchased a hardtail frame with a rigid fork and I'm looking for a set of wheeels for it that wont break the bank. What I need is a set of disc 29er wheels that are somewhat lightweight (under 1900 grams), with black or white rims, and I would ideally like to spend under $450.

They will not be getting abused as they are going on a bike that I plan on using around the neighborhood, riding to and from the store, and they might see a few curb hops.

I was really looking for a set of Mavic Crossmax's but they are a bit out of the budget.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Mavic Crossride Disc 29:

Mavic says they're 2020g but at least you're getting Mavic quality at a more budget-conscious price.

Wheelsets (29er) I've been looking at in this price bracket (I have not bought any, but they seem to get ok reviews):
Easton EA70 XCT (you need to find a pretty discount for these)
Easton Haven (50% discount at chainreaction!)
Fulcrum Red Power XL
Mavic C29max

I find the Eastons especially interesting.

Thank you for the reply. I forgot to mention I need 9mm QR.

Crossride is available as a QR version. Guess I just linked to a TA set. Typical set is QR rear/15 front and Mavic sells front adapters separately to convert it to QR.

Try american classic. They have a wheel listed at 1890grams for your price point. Their 'all terrain'

3.30's
Same build as if you bought them directly from Stan's. Bought them on Ebay new.
I think i may have paid $20 in shipping, so probably really paid $475 for them. I can't remember though.

If you check ebay, you can score decent deals. I picked up a set of Fulcrum Red Power 29 XLs for $173.

Thanks for all the input guys!

I ended up with a set of Mavic Crossrides. I got a good deal on them from a buddy at the LBS. I know they are little heavier than I wanted at around 2000 grams but after the bike was complete it weighed a little less than I expected so I didn't mind a few extra grams on the wheels. Although I would have preferred a lighter wheel because of unsprung weight and all that but the result came out ok and I really like th look of them.

Here is a quick pic in case anyone is interested.

Simple. Elegant. Curvy.

Is that allowed . . . to talk about "unsprung weight" in relation to a rigid bike?
