Sizing No-Mor Flats
 

Hi, all-

I'm going to install no-mor flats on my Iron Horse MT400 and have a question about sizing.

Currently I have 26" x 2.25" tires.

The only no-mor flats I can find locally are 26" x 1.75" - 1.95"

Is it possible I can make these work with my 2.25" tires? I haven't worked with no-mor flats in a few years but I do remember they're a really tight fit, which makes me think I might get away with it.

Also, are there different sizes of rims?

Is it possible my rims will accommodate both 1.95" and 2.25" tires?

The only time I used them were on my kids bikes. The fit was horribly tight.

Have you checked into tubeless flat solutions like Stan's No tubes or even Slime. Cheaper, lighter and fits what you have. It can be a pain to get everything up and sealed. Once you are sealed though it is very effective.

I flatted 3 times last weekend and even ruined a tire. Served me right for patting myself on the back for not flatting all year so far!

^^ I'm very partial to the Ollie's System myself. Cheaper; more reliable; simple.

1. I have never heard of that until now... is that like a professional ghetto tubeless setup? by that I mean the split tube trick, often using a 20" bmx tube in a 26" wheel or 24" in a 29er?


2. On my road bike and my wife's hybrid, I just use Mr Tuffy liners. They will stop most normal road debris. Sometimes a goathead will still go through, however, I've also pulled small bits of metal such as a staple or shards of glass out of a tire without a flat, meaning that the tuffy did stop it.


3. Anyway, tubeless is very easy if you have a wheel and tire that both have a UST-shaped bead. I have wrestled with stans strips, standard tires, air compressor, the whole bit. I will never try that again.

I have a set of Mavic Crossmax wheels on my MTB and also CX bike (the 29er version :D) which do have a UST shaped bead. I have mounted following tires straight up, and inflated with a normal pump in seconds with no tricks, no sealant (I do add it afterwards, of course), and just a light bath of dish soap & water on the bead.

Lightweight UST, 2Bliss, TubeLess-Ready, Tube No Tube, or just 'tubeless' : whatever the tire manufacturer calls it, as long as it has the UST bead shape and depth, you will be tubeless in minutes. You might then get a bit messy adding sealant, and definitely suggest using a stans (or other) injector.

I like to think of it as either: 1) the "knifeless" split-tube method; or 2) a 360-sealing rim strip.

I had Stan's in the tube!

But the shop that refurbished my 20yo bike left a fold in the rim tape and I ended up with a hole on the inside of the tube. Doom on me.

I had to push my bike 4 miles out of the brush in 100 degree weather! (Yes, I know I should have had a spare tube.)

I was really thinking about no-mor flats before this happened. I know there's a weight penalty, but it's not like I'm not already carrying a bunch of extra weight with my Geigerrig with an extra bladder, DSLR, etc. I don't think a few more pounds will bother me.

That dminor is so ahead of the world on bike changes! I hear that Interbike is going to hire him as their answer man!
