    Newer, improved Shimano SPD?

Last November I was in a bike shop and someone, who had come back from a bike show in the US, was talking about a new model of SPD pedal that Shimano had presented at the show. He said the claim was the pedal was about 30% easier to clip and unclip, and there was the option to add a platform around the SPD mechanism for better foot support. That person mentioned that, if I was thinking of buying new pedals, I should wait until this model would hit the stores.

I never got the exact name of this new model, and I assumed that eventually I would see the ads and reviews all over the place. But now that I'm looking, there doesn't seem to be much of a revolution about any new/improved off road clipless system.

Since I never got that person's name or email (to ask for more information), I thought I would pose the question here: did I get the story right, and did Shimano introduce an improved SPD system some time in 2012? Or was it some other manufacturer, and maybe not SPD (but definitely off road)?

    Any info will be appreciated.

Thanks for the link, that has to be it. And the video was published in November 2012, so even the timeframe seems right.

Now, would this still be an SPD pedal, or is it something else, not compatible with SPD cleats (the video didn't show enough of the cleats to compare)? I'm trying to determine if now there's three players in the market (Look, or "tap" shoes; SPD, with their recessed cleats; and ClickR, the new player), or whether ClickR is just the next generation of SPD pedals.
