School me on Rigid MTB's for Bikepacking!
Yo Bikepackers!
I'm a bike tourist and I want to get off the road with some bikepacking next year. If I'm buying a fully rigid mountain bike for basic trail-riding and a bit of road riding with about 160lbs of rider and 20lbs of gear, what are some stand-out bikes?
Looking at the Salsa Fargo, currently.

that's a monstercross bike. in all seriousness, I'd check in on the cyclocross and/or touring forums if you're interested in dropbar bikes.

Check out the Surly Ogre. That'd be my choice for the kind of riding you are talking about.

The Fargo would be a great bike for what you suggest. The Surly Ogre or Troll could also work, especially if you want to run flat bars.

The Fargo is quite perfect for backpacking and the frame and fork can handle whatever you want to bolt/lash to it.
I've been using my El Mar and Warbird for bikepacking trips. The El Mar (with RS fork) gets pressed into service if the route is more off-road oriented and the Warbird handles the rest.
I do like the designs of the Surly options but not the frame material - 4130 cromoly? Too cheap and heavy for my tastes. YMMV

I've always liked the old school Surly Long Haul Trucker.
You can set up the tires and wheels for whatever you want to try. OR just about any rigid bike can be set up for bikepacking, but the ride can be well-RIGID! A front fork may help with arm and shoulder discomfort.
