shimano chain/drive train standard?
Could someone explain to me what drive train stuff will work with what? I have a '96 kona kula with IG chain. Will a new HG chain work? What about the old HG chains?If I upgrade do i need new chain rings too? Help!!

i beleive that if you have LG sprocket/ chainrings then you need an LG chain, if you have HG chainrings then you need a HG chain. they arent compatible

I found a little more information on the subject.
Shimano intoduced HG (hyperglide in '91) and replaced it with IG (interglide in '95). It boils down to the fact you can use 1995-1999 IG chains with the HG systems but you cannot use Hg chains with IG systems.
In 1999 shamano started using the HG prefix for chains again but these are totally different.
