Old ride needs a new Fork

I am looking to replace my Rockshox Indy XC on a 1997 Rocky Mountain Hammer Race. I am looking for something that is a lightweight XC fork with V Brake bosses. I think new forks may be longer crown to skewer. Is this something to be concerned about? Any suggestions on replacement forks? thanks

1" steerer or 1-1/8 th" steerer tube? Most new sus forks do not have v brakes bosses and are 1-1/8th inch.

A quick check of Bikepedia reveals 1 1/8".

Haha, at on 63mm travel, yeah, it'll probably be hard to find as low of axle-to-crown as your original Indy XC. In fact, 80mm forks are hard to come by. Traditional rule-of-thumb usually up to 25mm over your old stocker won't alter things too radically. Just checked and a 2014 Rock Shox XC 32 TK Solo Air has a AtoC of 475mm. Too bad it doesn't have v-brake bosses - - Universal is selling 'em pretty reasonable. You have your homework cut out for you.

Lacking the knowledge to correctly measure and chose a replacement, recommend just taking it to a few LBS's until you find a clue'd in shop and let them take care of it. Not rocket science. Goal is to get back on the saddle asap, not mess with wrences and calculators for a month. There are a zillion forks for sale new and they are really not expensive unless you want an expensive one. Recommend avoid used ones or those ebay "like new" ones.

Why are you making rash assumptions about the OP's ability to read a tape measure and do research?

thanks all for your input. I looked at an 80 and 100 Manitou and the difference was just under and inch and 1.8 inches longer respectively. I'm guessing the 80 won't be too much of a difference but when you start getting to close to 2" I think it might. Will stop into LBS when I can - thanks
