Got a Costco bike. Now what?

Hi everyone!

The trails by my house are going to waste.

My dad bought me a Costco mountain bike. The Northrock xc6 a year or two ago but I havent ridden it. I read a review on it that said it was a decent entry level bike. Now that I want to get into mountain biking I was wondering if I need to swap or upgrade anything before hitting the trails. Or if its good enough to be ridden as it is and just replace things when they need to be replaced.

Thanks!

Just ride it and replace what breaks within reason.

Enjoy it! Check out some basic mountain bike skills on youtube and practice. I highly recommend a helmet, gloves and shorts. Welcome to a great sport! Tell your dad thanks.

I just looked that bike up. It's a decent entry level mtb. Go ride it and wear it out. One tip though--I wouldn't trust having a Costco "bike tech"'s assemble of it. I'd have a reputable bike shop give it the once over for safety to make sure everything is torqued correctly. I've seen pics of mass-marketer's bikes where brake levers are on wrong and forks mounted backwards. Wear a helmet!
