The dirt jumping and downhilling are what I really want to do. Any bikes you know of in the $600 and under range that can.

Airborne Wingman would be a better choice. As with most DJers, head angle is a tad steep for true hardtail DH use. Otherwise, at that price point you'll need to look at used. Even a Jamis Komodo is pushing over $800now new.

Look for a decent used Kona Shred or Scab or, better still, a Transition Vagrant.
