Anyone know??

I would like to know if there is a way to make a fork stiffer. I am looking at making my Manitou Six shock stiffer, buy putting stiffer springs in. Does anyone know where I can order them at? And, is that would you do to make it stiffer?

P.S. My knob to change the rate of the springs is all the way up.

thanks

I added an air pre-load system on my other 'Zocchi EXR Pro 120mm fork, and let me tell you that it made a world of difference for only $35. I've never owned a Manitou fork, so I can't help you specifically. Yes springs are "rated" and the stiffer ones are designed for heavier riders. The air pre-load caps will be less $$$ I'd imagine, plus you'll have instant response instead of gradual resistance. It's really what type of feel you like or want in the fork....

If it's an air fork, you can pump it up to make it stiffer, and you can swap out springs on coil shocks for stiffer ones. The Six is a low end OEM shock though, and I'm guessing it uses elastomer springs. I'm not sure if these can be swapped or not. As far as the knob you turned, are you sure it isn't to adjust preload (how high the bike sits)? I don't think its possible to actually change spring rate with a knob unless you have progressive springs and adjust the preload or something. Killer B, what are air preload caps?

They are an aftermarket Marzocchi preload. They work really well...

As for pumping up the air, check with your manufacturer. Don't pump them to much, they could blow.

When I turned the knob on the shock (theres only one, on the left side) it becomes stiffer. Its so soft that I can lean on it and it goes down half way. I dont know if that does adjust thte spring rate, or the length. It says on the shock, "80-100mm adjust." So I'm not sure if that has to do with the knob or not.
