New Bike Day!

First ever mountain bike, purchased yesterday a.m. By last night had already trail ridden 3 hours and got it nice and dirty! Most fun I've had on a bike in ages.

Im shopping for a new bike. There is a Jamis I like. Im considering this Giant Revel. Its entry level, but should do me fine. Just not sure of the quality of Giant bikes. Never seen too much of them. I can get this one new for $450. Just wondering if its a good idea.

Giant is the biggest bike maker in the world I do believe so I wouldn't be too concerned. Jamis is fine too.

I'm jealous. I just bought a brand new 2012 Marin (leftover) and there is about 2 feet of snow on the ground and it's been stupid cold lately. At this rate I won't be able to take it for a ride till April. Enjoy your new bike!

I tested Trek, Specialized, Kona, and Giant. At the price point I was looking at, around $700, while I'm no expert, they all seemed of equal quality. Slightly different specs of course, but they all certainly seemed like equally fine rides. What eventually swayed me was I settled on the 27.5 size so the Giant won (there wasn't a 27.5 in the other brands in any of my LBS's yet). I lucked out as I also liked some of the components better on it than some of the others, as well as the color(always a bonus!). I don't think you could go wrong with that Revel.

Congratulations on the new bike! Now be thankful you're not in the polar vortex or whatever it is they're calling the crap we're getting on the northeast portion of the country, and go ride!

And I agree that at $700, most of the bikes will be of similar quality and use similar components. It comes down to what fits and rides best to you personally, which is an individual choice that has to do with your body's proportions.
