Hey everyone. Newbie into bikes here and a newbie to the forum. Glad I found this site, looks like a pretty cool place.


I had a cheap pellet gun up for trade and I got an offer of a Hard Tail Mountain bike. I thought what the hell and told him to send me some pictures.

It needs a tube for the rear tire and 1 or 2 other minor things. New grips and maybe a brake pad.

I look it up and I found out that it is a Cannondale Chase 4 (Prototype) hard-tail mountain bike. I am a newbie to bikes and whatnot, but I looked it up and found a little bit about it. Is it an actual legit limited production prototype? Or is it just a model name for it.

I found this one on Evil-Bay as well and it's starting out at $550. With the condition issues, and with minor fix ups, would it be a decent trade?

You should apologize for that trade. Especially if your cheap pellet gun is anything like my pigeon slayer. You have a nice platform to build a real decent bike.

You can get some YOUTUBE info on chain cleaning and adjusting the shifters (derailers). Get everything lubed with BIKE lubricants. For $15. a good shop can get you some Dumont Tech or similar chain lube and cable spray. You might want to get new cables since you are rebuilding anyway. Congrats and welcome to Bike Forums!
