Hardtail choice Help!
Greetings,
I am a newbie on bikes and i want to buy one, with future goal for downhill. I want to buy a bike that i can cover some small distances ~20km daily with comfort and to be able to go on some mountain trails when i got time on weekend. I think that hardtail is the type of bike i search! I want to give a budget about ~1000 - 1500 euro, but i see so many categories and brands on internet that i can't really decide which is for me and what's the difference between them :'( .
Any suggestion on the bike type or a specific model would be very helpful! I have a preference on SCOTT/CUBE bikes so far!

go to a local bike shop that sells scott and cube and ride the hard tails and pick the one you like the best.
I ride a surly karate monkey and it is great.

+1, Go to a bike shop. NO, go to several bike shops. Try as much as you can, talk with the sales folks. Then decide.
