For rim brakes Magura HS33 is the best there is. Avid makes real good rim brakes, and their mechanical disc brakes are a real nice brake and gets real high reviews. For hydraulic disc, Hayes, Avid, Formula all make nice systems.

Rim brakes won't work on a sherman.

    Bam! You're dead.

After a while you get to know most things off the top of your head.
