    New Discs

Alright, I am sick and tired of my hayes hfx 9-s just because they give me problems like everyday so would it be better if I put Avid Mechanicals on my bike? Like they are cool and they have features like auto alignment and stuff like that. It would be cool if I did thisbut how much are the brakes for a whole set? I am pretty sure that I have the money to upgrade please help and by the way I'd be getting the Avid BAll BEaring 7. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am pretty sure you can get a set of the calipers and rotors for $150.00-ish. You should check froogle for that.
I am also strongly considering upgrading to those from V's, but I just don't know if I want to spend the money on them. I haven't heard a bad thing about them and I have read everything about them I possibly can. They even got a mtbr product choice award.
I would say if you got the money go for it. You might want to check ebay for some "buy it now's" too

One thing which I want to know is what problem are your hayes brakes giving you? Also they are designed with auto alingment features, disc brakes with auto alignment don't stop squeak heaps, just thought you should know.

I'm not saying don't change your brakes, and I am not syaing Hayes HFX-9's are that great a brkae, but why do you think you need to change. I know people who race DH on them (DH racing is the ultimate test for brakes) and they think they are fine, sure they are only going full speed trying to stop 90kg worth of bike and rider so what do they know. Lot's of them feel they coul do better with differetn brakes, but they think that they can get away with it.

Few things this kid does surprise me anymore. Personally I'd just save for a better set of Hydros rather than step back to mechanicals. As much as I love My Avids if I had a Hydro setup to start with I damn sure wouldn't put a cable set on it.

Well, I guess I will save for better hydros. The problems that my hfx 9's are giving me are: they keep getting un aligned they are always feeling musshy and then they will start feeling more solid the squeaf worse than a car's brakes. I've tried everything to stop the squeaks but it still squeaks. And 2 days ago I lost all power to my back braks, nothing nada I checked everything. No hydraulic fluid leaks, and the leverage screw was still in place. I just have to deal with these brakes everyday and I am getting sick of it.

ok any disk brake is gunna squeel and any disk brake is gunna rub a little bit. its part of having them. if they feel mushy you might have an air bubble, so you should bleed them. i dunno about the power loss. where you riding the brakes down a big hill because ive noticed some fade and i have good pads. if you have the stock ones theyre suposed to be really bad. another thing it could be. im not sure if this would happen in bikes. but it does on cars. is if the brakes heat up enough and the fluid boils then you loose all your brakes. so instead of DOT 3 use DOT 4. again in not sure if bike brakes can get that hot. i think they are amazing brakes and they are able to stop me and my 50lbs bike prety fast. gl with whatever you decide to do
