My first mountain bike was a Magna black kmart bike, rode it like crazy until a few years later when the rust started to in gulf it. I wish I knew the stuff I know today back then.

First real mountain bike was a 1984 Fuji Mt. Fuji, bought in 1994 at a pawn shop for $125. It was stolen in 2007 damn it.
Prior to that, a C-Ito 10 speed, a few 50's 60's Schwinn, a Stingray knock-off ... this was in the late 60's early 70's, before mountain bikes were invented, so my friends and I rode what we had through the woods and such.

My first mountain bike was a 1991 Haro Impasse. I still have a few parts from it but that bike is long gone. Having long legs, the shop sold me a 20", which is way larger than the 17" I ride to this day. It had the bulky push push shifters and steel biopace chainrings

Did it ever go anywhere . . . or did it stay in the garage. Confused.

My 1st MTB was a Rigid Peugeot Canyon Express, Tange 2 Cro-Moly.
It rides like a dream and is actually very comfortable on long commutes.
I will never sell this bike, wish I had a camera to post pictures, I will have to have my buddy take pictures for me.

My first was an early '90s GT Outpost All Terra. Electric blue with yellow decals, GT's Triple-Triangle frame and no suspension. I had my first (and only) bad wreck that resulted in injuries while riding that bike. Regrettably, it's no longer in my possession as I have fond memories of many many miles on it. It really provided a nice ride...
Not my bike, but the same model, color, etc.:

Wal-Mart Roadmaster Mt. Fury. Wifey bought a pair of them for $39 each to take with us when we go camping. Rode them a bit, but they sat a lot. I'm 50 years old, doctor recently told me the treadmill is beating up my knees and I need to find a better activity to stay in shape. I was pondering what that would be, when it hit me....no, it literally hit me.....the bike was hanging from the ceiling in the garage, untouched for years...and I ran smack into it...leaving a nice little mark on my forehead...but inspiration had struck.
I got it down, aired the tires, oiled the chain and the cables, and hit the road. It shifted like crap (when it shifted), but I tinkered with it until it shifted pretty decent...well, for a $39 bike anyway. Long story short, I knocked out 250 miles on it in a couple of months just cruising around the neighborhood and rediscovered one of the passions of my youth....riding a bike. Internet perusals followed, at which point I discovered I was riding what is known in industry parlance as a Bicycle Shaped Object. A month or so of searching Craigslist, and a year old Trek FX 7.2 followed me home. I've knocked out 400 miles on it so far since mid June and I love it. BUT....I'm keeping my Wally World BSO Roadmaster MT Fury. It's still great for a quick run to the store and I can chain it up outside with a cheap lock and I don't have to worry about it getting stolen....
A good Mountain Bike is in the cards down the road......or at least a better one LOL.

Some time in the mid 80's, I got a blue Murray mountain bike with 24" rims for Christmas. Impressed with the speed afforded by gearing, I took it to a friend's house and challenged him to a drag race down his huge driveway. He beat me handily since I started out in top gear (to go as fast as possible).
Around 1990 in junior high, I got a blue Novara mountain bike. This lasted me halfway through college until the fork bent. I left it for the summer with a soon to be ex girlfriend and never retrieved it. The next semester I got a truck.
In 2001 when I got my first full paycheck from a career job, I went out and signed for an apartment, bought a mattress, and a blue (sensing a pattern) Specialized Hardrock. I still have it, it's been an all purpose commuter monster and soon to be a tug.

First Mountain Bike was a Gary Fisher Montare.
And I broke it.
So they gave me an exact replacement frame. Stripped all the components and built a new Gary Fisher Montare.
And I broke that one too.

Took an old 27" Sears 3 speed and put some motocross handlebars on it some time in the late 70s. I later modified a sears "sting ray" copy into a bmx type with the fork from the 27" wheeled 3 speed and put it on the 20" with the motocross handlebars and knobbies front and rear for a trail rider.

My first mountain bike was a 1990ish Mongoose IBOC Comp. MountainLX components and Biopace rings. It was actually a fantastic bike, just way too big for me at the time(12 years old riding a 19" frame). It introduced me to the sport of mountain biking after I convinced my dad to let me use it. It has since seen upgrades to V-brakes, Rockshox Indy fork, and STX rapid fire shifters. The poor thing has seen too much abuse and is pretty close to retired at this point, but is set up for commuter duty. Forgive the ridiculous picture, its the only one on my computer.

1990 Schwinn KOM S7 that I bought new and still have today. It's my winter bike now, so I still ride it a few hundred miles a year between November and March.

Park Pre Hammer, Green/blue confetti paint, DX Thumb shifters & Brake levers, rest of the bits are LX. Picked it up at a yard sale 4 years ago for cheap. Going to start to ride it short distances now to try to get back on a bike after going over the bars on my Trek 1400 road bike over 3 years ago. It's the only MB I have so ya. Just going to ride it on the river bed paths. Don't know if I ever will ride a road bike again. Got to lose the 20 pounds I have gained. My family dose not want me to ride at all. The Park Pre should be safe enough though.

My first MTB was a GT custom built bike. I was about 12 when the bike was passed down to me. I wasnt even tall enough to ride it. I remember every year on my birthday I would see if I was tall enough to ride it. The bike was unfortunately stolen from me. I look back on it now and think to myself damn I didnt even know what I had at the time. For the life of me I cant remember any of the parts that were on it. Im pretty sure the fact that I didnt know much about bikes at the time had something to do with it. Its funny that Im posting about my ol GT bike I had back in the day because coincidentally I found a GT bike behind a bagel shop in my home town and after I finish restoring the drivetrain on my hardtail mongoose, Im going to build up this GT bike that I found

If I remember correctly mine was a 1981 Huffy Colorado Mountain Cruiser purchased at Parkers skate and bike shop in Piqua Ohio. Mrs. Parker was also my gym teacher. I could have the name wrong since I have searched the web for a picture and could not find one. But I do remember having a blast riding it.

Huffy full suspension piece of crap from Wal Mart 15 years ago. Didn't own it long. Then bought a snipes 30-06 frame and built my own. Sold it. Bought a 99 Diamondback sorrento which I still have. Currently a 2014 Jamis XC trail my favorite of them all (besides the snipes)

80$ Magna from Toys R Us. Had it for less than a year, rode it in the san diego surf, literally in the water. Noticed the frame had cracked, left in out in the alley for someone to take. Probably got my 80 worth.
Graduated to a GT timberline black/ cracked paint and biopace. It seemed to climb pretty good. Don't remember what I did with it.
Graduated to an 80's Rockhopper A-1 FS comp. in chrome. Traded that for my 8.4 ds. Shoulda kept it. Shoulda kept the GT too. Museum stuffs

My first mountain bike was a Murray that I got in the early '90s. I remember it was the coolest color ever (for a kid in the early '90s) bright teal with yellow shifter/brake cables. I also remember the bike was way too big for me. Sold it at the family garage sale one year. It came with a triangle-shaped frame bag that I never used. I found the bag a couple years after I sold it and kept it "just in case." Well, the last few years now I've been using that dumb old Murray frame bag as it fits my current Raleigh bike perfectly.

Mid 90's red GT something, got it after my BMX was stolen. Rode it everywhere I could go as a teenage boy. I forget what happen to it. Now I have a GT Aggressor Pro, I love my GT's.

In my late teens, maybe early/mid 90's it was a Huffy that had a hand/lever shifter next to the stem, and had this gray box looking rear tire that was meant for skidding. Hell, if I could find one, I would buy it just for the nostalgia factor. After that I bought myself a GT Talera (I think that was model, pardon the bad memory from getting old).
