Racing and passing
I've just completed my first two races (beginner class) and have a couple questions. When passing on single track, what is the common curtesy in a race? This last race I got off the track a couple of times to let people pass me. I don't want to slow anyone down, but then again when I moved I slowed myself down, and after all this is a race. Any suggestions?

Just don't intentionally block anyone. The faster riders will find their way around you, don't worry. Make sure you move as far over as you can, too.

Throw the stick!!!!
If the person that is trying to pass me is not much faster than I am I try to wait until a wide spot to let him pass. If he comes up on me fast then I try to get out of his way immediately. I really don't want to mess up his rythm. It seems like it works both ways. I know I hate it when I come up on someone pretty quick and I have to slow down to a craw because they are trying to find someplace convenient. When you are chasing down another rider in your class the time you lose trying to get around a slower rider really hurts.

If there are people behind me I will usually tell them to give me a holler if they want to go around. I will also tell people I would like to pass if I feel I am going significantly faster than they are.
