Biking in Kentucky?

Can anyone tell me if there is any good biking in Kentucky? I have searched the web and have not found too many sites. I will be moving into the Ft. Knox/Louisville area. I ride quite a bit and feel like i am in for a big dissapointment. THanks!

I live in Frankfort about 50 miles from Louisville. What kind of track you desire. There is not much other than single track.
Here is a link to some of the cycling clubs.

I know of at least 2 single track courses in Louisville. One is Cherokee Park which people say are good. For a very technical single track the Capital View Park trail in Frankfort is a state favorite. Here is the link to Capital View. There are others. Hopefully the links will get you started. Some of the state parks have ST and also a good ST and wider trails are at Cave Run Lake east of Lexington.

Welcome to Kentucky. If you were a roadie I could help you a lot more. KY has top quality road routes, especially in the BlueGrass area.

Otter Creek park right outside of Fort Knox is awesome. Lots of great single track. It will be a 5 minute drive from the base. You'll love it.

Cherokee Park is pretty good too. Trails all over the place. Its all the way in town.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. I'm sure AZ is awesome but Kentucky has a lot of good riding too.

I take it from the thread that you are an off road rider? I live in Louisville and ride the road. Road cycling in Kentucky is outstanding. The roads aren't beat up from the weather. I have also heard about Otter Creek being a nice place to ride off road.

I have going to Fort Knox for over 20 years. I sell food to the commissary, not only at Knox; but, in the five states surrounding Kentucky.

There is some major trails at the Land Between the Lakes. That would be a haul from Knox, I would say about 31/2 hours. This is the land between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. Beautiful area. I ride on the Trace sometimes when going through the area from Scott AFB to Fort Campbell. The Trace is the 40 mile road that runs from one end to the other.

Great bike shops in Louisville. If you go in, they can give you help on trails. The main shops are Bicycle Sport on Breckinridge Lane, Schillers Fitness and Cycling on Shelbyville Road, Cyclers Cafe on Lexington Road and Clarksville Schwinn in Clarksville, Indiana across the river.

Don't give up on Kentucky just yet. If have misread your thread and you do ride on the road as well shoot me an email. I carry my bike when I travel. I rode in Indianapolis yesterday and then drove to Selfridge ANG in Detroit.

Before I forget, thanks for your service to our country and I certainly hope your stay in Kentucky will be a pleasure for you.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised. There is a trail area near Elizabethtown - that is part of the Switchback Attack time trial series from The KY Mountain Bike Association. Check out ckwheelmen.org - for a local info. Also - the Louisville club louisvillebicycleclub.org - and the Southern Indiana siwheelmen.org club are pretty active clubs.

Hope that helps.
